Best Book Covers from August

The Casual Optimist runs a visual list about once a month. I always look forward to seeing what’s new, or old, or half remembered, as the case may be.

Nice and simple. Serious but playful. Reminds me of the old New Directions covers.why-information-grows-design-richard-green

This Galassi cover is trying to entice. Too bad it’s plastic. Too bad it totally reminds me of that book from a few years ago, The Surrender by Tony Bentley.

Love this eloquent typography, the “white” space, the single image.

But I’m getting tired of this twiney stuff.

On the other hand, this looks fresh.

The mask is another device that’s getting old, but this cover is really fun.

This one takes the cake, though. Amazing color, great masking technique, readable typography.
